Marcia Conlon

Marcia Conlon is a mixed media collage artist living in Traverse City, Michigan, USA. She works primarily in various forms of paper: vintage magazines, antique books, maps, cardboard and other paper ephemera. She is currently focusing on painted and sanded paper collages in an attempt to unearth the rich treasures within. Marcia has a BA in Art History from the University of Michigan, but her art education has been primarily informal and self taught. Marcia is deeply inspired by nostalgia, the ancient, and the antique. I believe my best work comes forth when I turn off my mind and work from pure instinct and emotion. My mediums are paper, glue and acrylic paint. I love anything old: vintage magazines, antique books and paper ephemera of all kinds. I am currently experimenting with painted over and sanded collages on wooden panels. I like working with materials that are a little rough, grungy, and a little dirty. My work is inspired by ancient, forgotten walls: how the surface flakes and strips revealing hidden treasures from the past. To me it invokes the emotions and memories locked within, waiting to be revealed.
