Sonia M. Requejo

Sonia develops her artistic work in the field of abstract painting, although she has also worked as a poet with the publication of several collections of poetry. Some of her works incorporate both disciplines to give voice to her own experiences and emotions, or those of other people.

For the last three years the central theme of her work has been motherhood. Her pictorial work offers different views on motherhood as an institution and not only as a personal experience. She deals with themes such as conciliation, breastfeeding, violence, inequality or motherhood lived in situations of sexual exploitation. Motherhood is ambivalent, intense and contradictory and it could be said that there are as many ways of being a mother as there are women who are mothers.
