Jilly Topping

Jilly Topping is a Manchester born, London based artist. Working mainly in sculpture, installation, film, ceramics and print her practice is heavily researched based. Topping’s work deals with social history, matriarchal lineage, loss, grief and lost narratives. Using ‘found’ and ‘made’ objects, to create tangible stories to be passed down through generations. Her ‘critical fabulations’ are a mix of fact, fiction, research and lived experience. Giving a voice to the working-class narrative, especially women’s voices, which are not often recorded or heard in the art world. Previous work by Jilly Topping has included work around hidden disability, shame and pain around the condition scoliosis.

Jilly Topping recently graduated with a first, on the BA Fine Art degree course at London Metropolitan University. Studying as a mature student with two children at home, she won the London Metropolitan University ‘Excellence in Research’ award 2022. She also had an artwork selected by Eva Rothchild RA, to be featured in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2021 while still a student.
